Hockey School PAUSED
As you are all aware our ever-changing situation continues to evolve with the most recent announcement from the Province of Ontario which places Durham Region into the CONTROL Zone (RED).
All the information below is subject to change based on the City of Pickering continuing to operate the arena. The PHA Executive has taken all information regarding the Control Zone Red into account. This has been necessary in order to make informed decisions on the best course of action moving forward for our Association. These factors include:
1. Ice that is available to the PHA and the overall cost
2. Membership opinions and their concerns at both Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels
3. Provincial/Regional/Municipal Health Guidelines that must be strictly followed
4. Hockey Canada/OHF/OMHA Guidelines that must be followed
5. The Association's financial stability and fiscal responsibilities.....both in the short-term and long-term
There will never be a perfect answer that satisfies the entire membership. However, we can tell you that we have debated long and hard with many varying opinions on all potential options moving forward. All while continuing to do our best to take into account the responsible interests of all our members.
Ultimately, the potential financial implications, along with current restrictions (maximum 8 players + 2 staff permitted on the ice for the hour) have resulted in the pause of Hockey School until January 9th. We know it sounds like a long time, but it is only 4 weeks of regularly scheduled ice times and the 2 week Christmas Break. Should it look like we will not be able to continue the Hockey School program in January, we will issue pro-rated refunds at that time.
We know this is not the desired outcome for the next 4 weeks, but we were not left with any options as running this program under the new restrictions is just not feasible.
We wish everyone well and to stay safe.
